About this calculator

What score is considered acceptable?

Common practice treats 18 and above as workable and 24 and above as strong. A low score is a prompt to look more closely at which koota fell short, not a verdict.

Does a low score mean a marriage will fail?

No. Guna milan is one traditional input among many, and classical texts themselves list numerous conditions that cancel an apparent problem. It is not a prediction.

What is Mangal dosha and how is it decided here?

Mangal dosha, also called Manglik or Kuja dosha, is Mars occupying the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house. Those five come from the classical verse. The 2nd house is a later South Indian addition, so it is computed and shown separately rather than blended in. The houses are counted from the ascendant, the Moon and Venus, and the result shows which reference flagged rather than only a verdict.

Why might my score differ from another site?

Usually the Vashya or Yoni table, since published authorities differ on individual cells, or the ayanamsa, which shifts the Moon between nakshatras near a boundary. This calculator uses Lahiri and the tables most Indian software follows, and it has been checked field by field against a published report for a real pair of charts.
